According to the “China Fund News” report, the representative surnamed Guo of a technology company in Fuzhou City suddenly received a WeChat video call request from a suspected friend on April 20. Guo Nan did not suspect him, and immediately remitted the money to the other party. The whole process took less than 10 minutes.
After Guo Nan transferred the money, he sent a message to the other party that “it has been completed”, but in exchange he got a big “?” from his friend. After a brief confirmation, he was surprised to be scammed. Guo Nan said followingwards, “I confirmed that the face and voice belonged to him, so I relaxed my vigilance.” The Baotou Telecommunications and Internet Crime Investigation Bureau, which was in charge of the investigation, intercepted 3.3 million of them, but still had 930,000 (regarding NT$4.05 million) outflow.
In addition to continuing to investigate, the police also appeal to the public not to easily provide personal biometric information such as faces and fingerprints, and not to overdisclose personal GIFs and videos, and to confirm multiple parties before transferring funds to avoid fraud. And Guo Nan was deceived by criminals using AI face-changing and voice generation methods, and AI fraud such as face-changing, voice-changing, and voice-alteration messages have recently been staged not only throughout China, but the success rate is even close to 100%.
