[이데일리 스타in 주미희 기자] Ahn Hyeon-soo (Victor Ahn), who served as the technical coach for the Chinese national short track team at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, was predicted to have difficulty continuing his activities in China due to his wife’s mistake.
On the 17th, China’s state-run media, the China Horyun Network Newspaper Center, said, “Ahn Hyun-soo apologized for his wife’s mistake, but there is no undone.”
He added, “There will never be another chance that Hyun-soo Ahn will serve as a short track speed skater in China.”
This media is managed by the Press Office under the Gong Wu-wan of China.
Previously, there was a controversy in China that Taiwan was marked as a country on the Internet site of the cosmetics brand Nari run by Ahn Hyun-soo’s wife, Unari.
As the wave grew, Ahn Hyun-soo posted on Chinese social media Weibo on the 15th, “There was an error in the basic settings due to the family’s negligence in managing the Internet site. It has now been restored and I apologize to everyone for this mistake. My family and I have consistently supported the ‘one China’ principle.”
The ‘one China’ principle means that China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong are indivisible and that the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate government of mainland China and Taiwan.
Despite Ahn Hyun-soo’s apology, Chinese companies that used him as a promotional model quickly dismissed him.
Chinese netizens are calling for an apology from Ahn Hyun-soo as well as his wife Unari. However, when Na-ri Wu casually uploaded photos of her daily life, including making coffee and waking up her daughter Jane Yang, to her social networking service (SNS) Instagram story, Chinese netizens criticized her even more.
Hyunsoo Ahn participated in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin with the Korean national team and achieved three gold medals.
As a Russian national, he participated in the 2014 Sochi Olympics and once more achieved three gold medals. After his retirement, he participated in the Beijing Olympics as a technical coach for the Chinese national team. He is said to have received an annual salary of 500 million won, including incentives, as a technical coach for the Chinese national team.
