After Paris 2024, Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032, India hopes to make the history of the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, with the desire to organize the global event in 2036.

If the country’s ambition has repeatedly been thwartedPrime Minister Narendra Modi has clearly made application form during his speech delivered on the sidelines of the 141st Session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) orchestrated last October in Bombay.

It must be said that India has been preparing for several years to build the foundations of a candidacy likely to attract and convince the Olympic institution keen to eventually get closer to the most populous country on the planet and this, following conquering China in 2008 and Brazil in 2016.

To this end, a concept is currently being worked on in the State of Gujarat with, as centrality, the Narendra Modi Stadium of 110,000 places and its surroundings in Ahmedabad.

Since at least 2021, local and regional authorities have expressed their desire to create the conditions for the installation of a vast Olympic Park along the Sabarmati River, knowing that dozens of neighboring sites have also been identified in the summer of 2023 to complete a device partly designed with the assistance of the architectural firm Populous.

As part of an urban regeneration project for the area, the masterplan – or master plan – designed for Ahmedabad was also presented mid-week on the occasion of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summitan annual event bringing together the major players in the Indian economy.

As announcedsix sports complexes capable of housing around twenty disciplines must be built on approximately 142 hectares in an area called Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave.

In detail, a set composed of two arenas is planned near the Narendra Modi Stadium which, due to its overall size, is promised to host the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games. The first enclosure will have 6,000 seats, while the second will have a capacity of 10,000 seats.

On the other side of the monumental stadium, an Aquatic Center with 12,000 seats is planned by the authorities through the company Gujarat Olympic Planning and Infrastructure Corporation Ltdas well as a 10,000-seat Tennis Center which must be supplemented by additional courts.

A multifunctional enclosure with 18,000 seats is also planned, not far from another large capacity stadium announced for holding part of the football tournament (50,000 seats).

Finally, near the banks of the river, the Ring of Unity is presented as a space for connection and gathering within this gigantic sports and urban park which must also be decorated with shops and areas with trees and vegetation, not to mention residential buildings on the outskirts.

With a diameter of 150 meters, the ring – capable of hosting sporting or cultural events – might accommodate 5,000 people simultaneously, with the possibility of increasing the capacity with a temporary extension of up to 12,000 places. .

While earthworks and networks have already started on the vast site, the first calls for tenders have been launched these days.

The public authorities – who intend to invest at least 6,000 crores of rupees, or some 660.9 million euros – hope to begin construction by 2027-2028 with delivery expected by 2030.
