Ahmed Doma’s Release: Activists React and Celebrate Freedom in Egypt

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Activists and politicians in Egypt responded to the decision to release Egyptian activist Ahmed Doma, on Saturday, with a pardon from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Human rights lawyer Khaled Ali said, through his account on the “X” platform, previously, Twitter: “Duma is free.”

And he added in another post: “A picture with all the fighters (precedents) following Duma’s exit, may God help everyone, and complete the picture with all the loved ones who are still in prison.

Immediately following the activist Ahmed Doma was released, activists circulated pictures of the Egyptian politician Hamdeen Sabahi, founder of the Dignity Party and the Popular Current, Farid Zahran, head of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party, and director Khaled Youssef, as they received Ahmed Doma following he was pardoned by a republican decision.

Political activist Khaled Talima also published a picture of Duma with Sabahi, Khaled Youssef and Zahran on his Facebook page, and commented on it, saying: “Duma is free.”

Earlier, on Saturday, the Egyptian representative, Tariq Al-Khouli, said on his page known as the “X” platform: “Mr. President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, President of the Republic, uses his constitutional powers and issues Republican Decree 348 of 2023 pardoning some of those sentenced to final rulings, including Ahmed Saad. Duma”.

For her part, Jamila Ismail, head of the Egyptian Constitution Party, said through her account on the “X” platform: “We will continue to dream of an Egypt without women prisoners of conscience and without political prisoners… We will continue to demand the release of those held in pretrial detention and a general amnesty for all the oppressed among those sentenced behind bars…”.

Jamila Ismail added: “Congratulations on finally freeing Ahmed Doma following he executed 10 years of the sentence issued once morest him (15 years).. Congratulations to the families and loved ones of the following names.. And greetings to everyone who contributed to their return and waiting for more.”

The president of the Constitution Party published the names of 30 people who were released.

Mona Seif, the sister of the famous activist Alaa Abdel-Fattah, said on the “X” platform: “I have also been waiting for weeks.

Mona Seif also published a picture of Ahmed Doma and commented on it, saying: “This is a picture of the greatness of Doma speaking on a mobile phone standing under the sun and the air without officers or clips.”

She added, “Dome on the asphalt is the sweetest sentence I’ve said in years.”
