DIRECTOR Agung Sentausa returns to the world of feature films with “See you later, Hanna!”, after not being involved in big screen production for a long time.

According to Agung, this project is an important momentum for him after not being involved in large productions for quite a long time. “This opportunity is a momentum to be trusted again as a storyteller in large productions. “Even though it’s not easy because I haven’t directed a feature film for a long time, I am very enthusiastic about working on the film “Until Later, Hanna!”,” said Agung.

Creating Characters with Different Dimensions

One of the main attractions for Agung in directing this film was the complexity of the characters. According to him, every character in “See You Later, Hanna!” have different dimensions, depending on the situation and where they are.

“What’s interesting to me is how each character brings out different dimensions depending on the place and who they are dealing with. “This is very relatable, because everyone has different sides depending on their environment,” said Agung.

Agung also emphasized that this film depicts the turbulent lives of young people, who are often faced with various conflicts in family, romance and friendship.

“Every character in this film experiences growth, and this process of finding identity is very relatable to the lives of many people, especially young people. “They are afraid to make decisions and hesitate to move on, a reflection of the life process that many people face,” he continued.

The process of selecting and developing the chemistry of the cast

In the process of bringing together the cast, Agung revealed that it didn’t take long to find the right composition. With experienced actors and actresses such as Febby Rastanty, Juan Bio One, and Ibrahim Risyad, Agung felt helped because the players already had extraordinary abilities.

“The process is quite easy because they are all experienced film actors. “I don’t need to give too much direction because they can quickly understand their roles,” explained Agung.

However, one of the biggest challenges in this film was building chemistry between the cast, especially because this film focuses so much on the relationship dynamics between the characters.

“Casting is very important, because chemistry is the first key in films that tell stories about relationships. “I had to make sure that the relationships between the actors felt real and deep,” said Agung.

He admitted that he felt nervous when he first discussed it with Febby, especially because of the change in short hair style that Febby had to undergo for this role. “I want to see how she looks with short hair, and this is a big challenge not only for me, but also for Febby. However, he did very well,” said Agung.

Red Flag vs Green Flag: Challenges in Character Casting

Agung also mentioned the “red flag” label usually attached to the character played by Juan Bio One and the “green flag” to Ibrahim Risyad, calling this part of the challenges that must be faced in casting. Agung watched previous films starring Febby, Bio, and Ibrahim to understand the roles they usually play and challenge them in this film.

“I hope that by building good chemistry, they can give a performance that lives up to expectations in “See You Later, Hanna!”,” said Agung.

With such enormous challenges in characterization and casting, Agung felt that the film “See You Later, Hanna!” is a film everyone needs to see. Apart from presenting a complex love story, this film depicts the turmoil of young people’s lives which are full of searching for identity, making decisions, and the courage to grow. (Z-3)
