In an empty Atanasio Girardot, Águilas Doradas made their debut in the Liga Libertadores. The Rionegro team had to travel to the home of Atlético Nacional and Independiente Medellín, to receive Bragantino for Phase II of the most important club tournament on the continent. The first leg game for a place in the Group Stage of the “Eternal Glory” ended in a goalless draw, which means that this ticket will be decided at the Nabi Abi Chedid stadium in Brazil.

The match began with the golden team dominating, but even though they had the ball, they were unable to finish at the rival’s goal. Bragantino took advantage of a mistake by Águilas and in the 21st minute the first clear move was made by Helinho. After an assist from Nathan Mendes, the 23-year-old striker finished with his left leg, but failed to close his foot properly and the play did not end in a goal.

The match was very uncomfortable for those led by El Bolillo, which allowed the visitors to gain more confidence. After 10 minutes of Helinho’s missed opportunity, Vitinho gave a header very close to José Contreras’ goal that, luckily for Águilas, went over the goal. The first 45 minutes were over and the game went to halftime with a tie.

Águilas Doradas came out with the same 11 players on the field and, as at the end of the first half, Bragantino controlled the ball. 56 minutes had to pass before the Rionegro team was given the first opportunity to score a goal. Jesús Rivas fell at the door of the rival’s area, which ended in a free kick that Fredy Salazar took and Cleiton managed to take it to continue with his goal blank.

The last 10 minutes of the game were a little more exciting compared to what the rest of the game was like. At the end of the official time, the score was 0-0 and the team that advances to the next phase will be defined next Tuesday, February 27 in the return game in Brazilian territory.

Now Águilas Doradas must prepare to receive Envigado at the Alberto Grisales stadium for the eighth date of the BetPlay League. The Bolillo team managed to defeat Millonarios in El Campín and is tenth in the table with 11 points.
