Manchester City unveiled a statue of Argentine legend Sergio Aguero on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of his deadly goal once morest Rangers, which secured City his first title in 2012 on the last day of the season at the expense of rival and neighbor Manchester United.
Aguero, who attended the unveiling ceremony on Friday with his fiancée Sofia Calziti, expressed his gratitude to the club and said: “Frankly, seeing myself 10 years ago is a very beautiful and moving thing. I am very grateful to the club for this honor, it is something special.”
The statue was sculpted by artist Andy Scott, and Chairman of the Board of Directors Khaldoon Al Mubarak commented: “I think the moment Aguero scored the goal changed everything. That moment laid the foundation for what came in the next ten years. He is a legend for this club.” However, the face of the statue resembles Real Madrid’s German star Tony Cruz more than Aguero, and this was not hidden from the fans. They wrote: “Strange, they asked Aguero to reveal the statue of Tony Cruz” and “Do I only see Cruz’s face more than Aguero?” Have you seen the statue of Tony Cruz at the Etihad Stadium? Sergio Aguero is undoubtedly jealous of Cruz, despite what he has achieved in the Citizens.” Cruz commented on the “Sergio here” fan’s tweet, and the German wrote: “Are you sure?”
