Agriculture: 50% of coffee producers globally will be out of service due to climate change

Dr. Mohamed Fahim, advisor to the Minister of Agriculture on climate changes, said that all agricultural crops are affected by climate changes, especially coffee, which has witnessed increases in its prices globally in the recent period..

Fahim added, in a telephone interview to the “Ninth” program with the media, Youssef Al-Husseini, on the first channel of the Egyptian TV, that climatic changes have led to major problems in coffee cultivation, and thus this was reflected in the rise in coffee prices globally, especially since coffee cultivation takes place in the regions. Tropical or tropical, so Brazil, Ethiopia and Vietnam are famous for growing coffee.

He continued, “The world witnesses 400 billion cups of coffee annually, with a value of 500 billion dollars, and due to the climate repercussions that began a few years ago, coffee cultivation has been affected, and it is expected that over the next few years, 50% of the areas famous for coffee cultivation will be outside the production of the crop.”“.

He pointed to the direction of the Ministry of Agriculture, to develop new varieties of crops that face climate changes in the future, to preserve agriculture in Egypt.
