Marc Fesneau announced that new measures will be announced “tomorrow or the day following tomorrow” for farmers. Concerning the possibility of exemption from fallow obligations, he indicated that France will “activate it in the coming days”. Emmanuel Macron will be in Brussels on Thursday to work on the agricultural crisis with European partners.

“We work nights and days.” While farmers continue to mobilize across the country, Minister of Agriculture Marc Fesneau declared this Wednesday evening on LCI that new measures will be announced by the Prime Minister “tomorrow or following tomorrow”. They will complement those already announced by Gabriel Attal in recent days and will show that “something has changed.”

“The whole model must evolve, that’s how we will restore confidence to farmers,” insisted the minister, specifying that these measures will relate to “crises that are underway or expectations formulated” as well as “simplification measures.

Marc Fesneau also returned to the subjects which will be on the table of the European Council in Brussels on Thursday, where Emmanuel Macron will be traveling. The European Commission has notably proposed granting a partial exemption from fallow obligations in the EU. “Countries that want to can implement this possibility of deviating from fallowing, France will activate it in the coming days, French farmers (…) will be able to escape this injunction that is incomprehensible to the agricultural worldassured the minister.

Mercosur, “an unacceptable agreement”

Regarding the proposal to limit any uncontrollable increase in Ukrainian agricultural imports, Marc Fesneau clarified that “contingents“will be reinstated on sugar, eggs and poultry.”We are going to re-establish quotas on which there will be no customs duties, and quotas beyond which there will be “ he explained.

As for cereals, “we must ensure that they find the path that was theirs, and which was obstructed by Putin, which is the path of export outside our European borders.” EU countries continue to work on this subject to avoid any “market destabilization” and ensure that these cereals “are leaving Ukraine without hindering the European market”.

Another subject strongly criticized by farmers and which must be addressed in Brussels: free trade agreements and in particular that of Mercosur, which allows the importation of products that do not respect the standards required of European farmers. “The president said France’s position: this agreement as it is placed on the table is unacceptable, he will reaffirm this position tomorrow, (…) the agreement not being acceptable, it is not not engaged” insisted Marc Fesneau.
