Job retention must be earned together. Tariff adjustment in retail at the absolute upper limit. HV thanks employer representatives for their commitment.

Vienna (OTS) – In the seventh round of negotiations, employer representatives and the union were able to agree on a new collective agreement today. With Increases between 8.3% and 9.2% – was average +8.39% corresponds – the fixed tariff adjustment is at the absolute upper limit, which will overwhelm many retailers in the coming year.

“The historically highest commercial KV agreement with an average of 8.39 percent will compensate for inflation for employees. Even if every euro more in personnel costs has to be earned in the company so that the employment structure can be maintained. It’s still far from being ‘a good Oktoberfest’, neither for the jobs nor for the companies,” explains trade association managing director Rainer Will in an initial statement.

“Despite the difficult initial situation and the negative economic outlook from IHS and WIFO, with today’s KV agreement, domestic dealers are giving their employees support, purchasing power and planning security for 2024. Now the focus must be on reforms by the government so that the taxes are on the Work factor can be reduced. This is the only way the country’s most damage-intensive industry can remain viable. True to the motto: strengthen employees and maintain trade.”

The trade association has always emphasized that solidarity is needed to sustainably secure jobs in retail and therefore, in the interests of employee representatives, the top priority must be to keep as many employees as possible in retail.

“The significant increase in the minimum salary to 2,124 euros also shows the attractiveness of the industry in numbers. In general, this wage increase is a sign of gratitude to the employees, many of whom have achieved extraordinary things in recent years. In the coming year, employees and employers will have to fight together to preserve jobs in Austrian retail. We also recommend that employee representatives remain in discussions with employer representatives in order to address and push forward urgent collective bargaining reforms in the months without negotiations,” said trade spokesman Rainer Will.

The trade association would like to thank the employers’ negotiating team for their commitment. The collective agreement concluded in Austrian retail applies to around 430,000 retail employees.
