“Agoramana” stops at the act theater on November 15, 16 and 17

After the two very successful theater seasons in Athens and tours throughout Greece, this time the show “Agoramana” comes to Patras.

What will we see on stage? A new mother finds that raising children under conditions of social pressure and incessant “well-intentioned” instructions ends up being an arduous, intensive and lonely job. Is she the only one who feels this way? Is she a bad mother? Why does a woman to be “complete” have to have children? How true is the narrative of family happiness you serve to young people? And what’s up with the men anyway?

Through a very personal style, which combines stand-up comedy, documentary and musical theatre, “Agoramana” explores, chronicles and deconstructs the experiences of parenthood, gradually sheds light on gender roles and boldly unravels the thread of violence against of women*. With its subversive subject matter, the show challenges viewers of all genders and ages to reexamine the systematic impact of social stereotypes and power structures on all of our lives.

Each show hosts a different guest, who integrates into the stage action and contributes with a unique perspective on the themes of the show.

“This load of logistics that mom has on her head is huge! To take a break from what I live, I go to the greengrocer, my friend…”

“Anyway, I’m not having a child with a man again.”

*During the show there are clear references and descriptions around the issue of obstetric violence. If you are a victim of obstetric violence, do not hesitate to seek help and support from certified professionals and agencies.

What were the key influences behind the ⁢creation of “Agoramana” as a reflection ⁣on motherhood and societal pressures? ‌

**Interview with ⁤Aphrodite Mitsopoulou, Creator of “Agoramana”**

**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Aphrodite. “Agoramana” is making‍ its⁣ way to Patras after successful performances in Athens. Can you tell us what inspired you‌ to create this show?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** Thank you for having me! “Agoramana” was born out of a personal need to express the complex realities of motherhood⁣ today. Many women face immense pressure and isolation, questioning ⁢their choices and identity. I⁣ wanted to explore those themes in a relatable and humorous way while ‌highlighting the societal⁢ stereotypes that shape our experiences.

**Editor:** ‍The show blends stand-up comedy, documentary, ‌and musical theater. How did you decide on this unique approach?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** It was essential for me to‌ present the ‌subject matter in‍ a way that is engaging and thought-provoking. By mixing genres, we can touch on serious topics—like gender roles and obstetric violence—while also encouraging laughter and reflection. It’s a way to connect with the audience on multiple levels.

**Editor:** Your show raises significant questions about motherhood‍ and societal⁢ expectations. Can you give us a sneak peek into‍ the central themes?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** Absolutely! The protagonist grapples‌ with feelings⁣ of inadequacy and the pressure to conform to the narrative of “perfect ‌motherhood.” She wonders if she’s a bad mother for feeling exhausted and overwhelmed. The show questions why‍ women feel the ⁢need to be “complete” through motherhood and also shines a light on the often overlooked perspectives of men in ⁤parenting.

**Editor:** You’ve⁢ mentioned the involvement of guest ‍contributors in each performance. What role do they play in the show?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** Each guest brings their unique perspective to the themes we ⁣explore. Their insights enrich the performance, creating a dynamic conversation that ⁤evolves night after night. It’s a⁤ way to make the show even more relevant to our audience and encourages everyone to engage with the issues presented.

**Editor:** As we see “Agoramana” make ⁢its debut ⁤in Patras, what message do you hope the audience takes away?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** I hope the audience ⁢leaves with a sense of validation and empowerment. Motherhood can be a challenging journey, and it’s important to recognize that many women ⁣share ⁤these feelings. I want them to question⁣ societal⁣ expectations critically‍ and ⁤to feel less alone in their experiences.

**Editor:** Thank you, Aphrodite! We’re looking forward to seeing “Agoramana” in Patras. ‌Any final⁣ thoughts?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** Thank you! I invite ⁣everyone to join us in this exploration of ⁣motherhood, ⁢gender roles, and the strength of community. Let’s start conversations that matter!

**Editor:** Thank you for ⁤your ⁢time! “Agoramana” runs in ‍Patras on November 15, 16, and 17. Don’t miss‍ it!
