“Agoramana” stops at the act theater on November 15, 16 and 17

After the two very successful theater seasons in Athens and tours throughout Greece, this time the show “Agoramana” comes to Patras.

What will we see on stage? A new mother finds that raising children under conditions of social pressure and incessant “well-intentioned” instructions ends up being an arduous, intensive and lonely job. Is she the only one who feels this way? Is she a bad mother? Why does a woman to be “complete” have to have children? How true is the narrative of family happiness you serve to young people? And what’s up with the men anyway?

Through a very personal style, which combines stand-up comedy, documentary and musical theatre, “Agoramana” explores, chronicles and deconstructs the experiences of parenthood, gradually sheds light on gender roles and boldly unravels the thread of violence against of women*. With its subversive subject matter, the show challenges viewers of all genders and ages to reexamine the systematic impact of social stereotypes and power structures on all of our lives.

Each show hosts a different guest, who integrates into the stage action and contributes with a unique perspective on the themes of the show.

“This load of logistics that mom has on her head is huge! To take a break from what I live, I go to the greengrocer, my friend…”

“Anyway, I’m not having a child with a man again.”

*During the show there are clear references and descriptions around the issue of obstetric violence. If you are a victim of obstetric violence, do not hesitate to seek help and support from certified professionals and agencies.

How do the guest speakers‌ contribute to the overall message of the show and enhance the audience’s experience?

**Interview with Aphrodite ⁤Mitsopoulou, Writer and ⁣Co-Director of “Agoramana”**

**Editor:** Welcome, Aphrodite, and thank you⁤ for joining us today! “Agoramana” has already garnered ‌much praise during ⁢its runs in Athens and across Greece. What can audiences in Patras expect from this‍ show?

**Aphrodite ‌Mitsopoulou:** Thank you for having me! In “Agoramana,” we tackle the complex realities of motherhood in a society filled with expectations and pressures. Our protagonist is an everywoman who ‍struggles with the overwhelming demands of raising children while facing societal judgment and well-meaning yet intrusive advice. It’s a raw, honest exploration of whether⁤ she’s the only one feeling this way and challenges the notion of what it means to be a “complete” woman ⁤in today’s world.

**Editor:** That sounds both intriguing and relatable. The show ⁤combines elements ⁣of stand-up⁣ comedy, documentary, and musical theatre. How does this ‌blend enhance the storytelling?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** This mix allows us to approach serious topics with a sense of humor and lightness, while⁤ also prompting critical reflection. ‌Comedy can break down⁤ walls, ‍making it easier for ⁣audiences to engage with⁢ heavy themes like gender roles and obstetric violence. We want viewers to laugh, think, and ultimately feel empowered to reexamine societal stereotypes ‍that affect everyone.

**Editor:** Speaking of heavy ‍themes, the show addresses obstetric violence. Why was ⁢it important to include‌ this topic in your narrative?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** We believe it’s ⁢crucial to shed light on all aspects of motherhood, including the ‌darker‍ truths that many women face. Obstetric violence is a real issue that affects the birthing experience of many women. By incorporating ‌it into our show, we aim to raise‍ awareness and encourage those affected to seek help and support.

**Editor:** Each performance features a ⁢unique guest who brings their perspective to the themes of the show. Can you tell us more about this aspect?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** Absolutely! The guest integration adds a fresh dynamic to each performance.⁣ They share their experiences and insights, enriching the narrative ‍and sparking discussions that resonate with the audience. It’s about fostering community dialogue around motherhood, gender⁣ roles, and ⁤societal expectations.

**Editor:** What ‍do you hope patrons take away from ⁤”Agoramana”?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** I hope the audience leaves with a sense of solidarity and understanding—that they are not alone in their‌ struggles. I want them to question societal norms, feel empowered to break free‍ from stereotypes, and acknowledge the importance of sharing our stories, no matter how difficult they‍ may be.

**Editor:** Thank you, Aphrodite! We’re looking‍ forward to seeing “Agoramana” in ‌Patras and encourage everyone to experience this poignant ⁢and thought-provoking production.

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** Thank‌ you! We can’t wait to share this journey with the audience in Patras.
