“Agoramana” stops at the act theater on November 15, 16 and 17

After the two very successful theater seasons in Athens and tours throughout Greece, this time the show “Agoramana” comes to Patras.

What will we see on stage? A new mother finds that raising children under conditions of social pressure and incessant “well-intentioned” instructions ends up being an arduous, intensive and lonely job. Is she the only one who feels this way? Is she a bad mother? Why does a woman to be “complete” have to have children? How true is the narrative of family happiness you serve to young people? And what’s up with the men anyway?

Through a very personal style, which combines stand-up comedy, documentary and musical theatre, “Agoramana” explores, chronicles and deconstructs the experiences of parenthood, gradually sheds light on gender roles and boldly unravels the thread of violence against of women*. With its subversive subject matter, the show challenges viewers of all genders and ages to reexamine the systematic impact of social stereotypes and power structures on all of our lives.

Each show hosts a different guest, who integrates into the stage action and contributes a unique perspective on the show’s themes.

“This load of logistics that mom has on her head is huge! To take a break from what I live, I go to the greengrocer, my friend…”

“Anyway, I’m not having a child with a man again.”

*During the show there are clear references and descriptions around the issue of obstetric violence. If you are a victim of obstetric violence, do not hesitate to seek help and support from certified professionals and agencies.

What are some key themes explored in “Agoramana” ‌that resonate with contemporary audiences?

⁤**Interview with ⁣Aphrodite Mitsopoulou, Creator and Performer of “Agoramana”**

**Editor:** Thank you for ⁤joining ⁣us, Aphrodite. “Agoramana” has had ‌a remarkable reception during its previous runs in Athens and⁣ across Greece. What can ⁤audiences expect from‌ the show as it comes to Patras?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** Thank you for having me! In Patras, we invite‍ audiences to delve ‌into the incredibly personal journey of ‍a new mother navigating the challenges of raising children amidst societal expectations. The show is an exploration of the multifaceted pressures we face as parents and the often taboo ⁤topics surrounding motherhood, gender roles, and even obstetric violence. We blend stand-up comedy, documentary, and‍ musical theater to ⁣create a unique experience that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.

**Editor:** That sounds intriguing. You mentioned societal pressures – can you elaborate on how “Agoramana” addresses the challenges of motherhood in ⁤contemporary society?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** Absolutely. ‌The ‌narrative centers on ⁢the protagonist’s struggle with overwhelming⁤ societal expectations and⁣ the relentless advice from well-intentioned‌ friends and family. It raises vital questions about⁢ the definitions of motherhood, fulfillment,‌ and ⁣even happiness. Why must a woman be complete through ‌motherhood?‌ Is she a ‍bad⁣ mother if she feels overwhelmed? We tackle these concerns with humor and raw honesty. It’s essential to discuss these questions openly and to create a space ⁣for‌ dialogue.

**Editor:** ‌The show’s themes are quite‍ bold. How do you think⁢ “Agoramana” challenges traditional narratives about family and ⁤gender roles?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** We aim to subvert the traditional‍ narratives of‍ family happiness and challenge stereotypes⁣ imposed on both women and men. Each performance features a ‍different guest who shares their perspective, further enriching our exploration of these ⁣themes. By doing so, we ⁤encourage audiences of all ‌genders and ⁤ages⁢ to reflect on the power structures in their own lives and how they affect everyone, not just women. The goal is to foster understanding‌ and provoke thought.

**Editor:** Your use of humor must be an effective tool in conveying such weighty topics. Can you share how humor plays a role in the storytelling of “Agoramana”?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** Humor is⁤ a vital element! It creates a safe⁣ space for audiences to ⁣engage ⁢with sensitive⁢ topics.⁣ Laughter can disarm people, allowing them ‌to confront uncomfortable truths about parenthood and societal roles. It’s also relatable; many parents find ‍solace and ‌camaraderie ‍in shared experiences of struggle and joy. We aim to provide⁢ both laughter and⁤ reflection, leading to a deeper understanding of the issues at hand.

**Editor:** This artistic approach sounds powerful. ‍As the show’s creator and performer, what do you hope audiences take away from “Agoramana”?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** I hope they leave with a sense of connection and validation – ‌that they are not alone in their experiences, whether as parents or in their societal roles. I want audiences to feel inspired⁤ to⁤ question societal norms, to redefine what happiness and fulfillment mean for themselves, and to engage in conversations⁣ that challenge and support each other. Ultimately, understanding leads to empowerment,⁤ and that’s what we strive for.

**Editor:** Thank you, Aphrodite, ‌for sharing ⁤these insights about “Agoramana”. We look forward to‍ seeing it in Patras on November 15th, 16th, and 17th!

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** Thank you! I can’t ‍wait for ⁣the audience ‍in‌ Patras to join us on this journey.
