“Agoramana” stops at the act theater on November 15, 16 and 17

After the two very successful theater seasons in Athens and tours throughout Greece, this time the show “Agoramana” comes to Patras.

What will we see on stage? A new mother finds that raising children under conditions of social pressure and incessant “well-intentioned” instructions ends up being an arduous, intensive and lonely job. Is she the only one who feels this way? Is she a bad mother? Why does a woman to be “complete” have to have children? How true is the narrative of family happiness you serve to young people? And what’s up with the men anyway?

Through a very personal style, which combines stand-up comedy, documentary and musical theatre, “Agoramana” explores, chronicles and deconstructs the experiences of parenthood, gradually sheds light on gender roles and boldly unravels the thread of violence against of women*. With its subversive subject matter, the show challenges viewers of all genders and ages to reexamine the systematic impact of social stereotypes and power structures on all of our lives.

Each show hosts a different guest, who integrates into the stage action and contributes with a unique perspective on the themes of the show.

“This load of logistics that mom has on her head is huge! To take a break from what I live, I go to the greengrocer, my friend…”

“Anyway, I’m not having a child with a man again.”

*During the show there are clear references and descriptions around the issue of obstetric violence. If you are a victim of obstetric violence, do not hesitate to seek help and support from certified professionals and agencies.

What themes does ⁢”Agoramana” explore, and how does ⁢humor play a role⁣ in addressing them?

**Interview with Aphrodite Mitsopoulou, Creator of “Agoramana”**

**Editor:** Thank you⁢ for joining ⁤us today, ‍Aphrodite!‍ “Agoramana” has been⁤ a hit in Athens and tours across Greece. What inspired ⁢you to bring this show to Patras now?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** ⁣Thank you for⁢ having me! After two incredibly successful seasons, we felt it‍ was time to share this important narrative with even more audiences, and Patras provides⁢ a vibrant⁣ space for these discussions. The show’s ⁣themes ⁣resonate with so many people, especially regarding the pressures of motherhood and societal expectations.

**Editor:** The show tackles some⁢ heavy topics, including parenting under‌ social pressure and the narrative of family happiness. How do you approach these serious themes while⁣ maintaining ‍a ⁢sense of humor through your ⁢performance?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** It’s all about‍ balance! We combine ⁤stand-up comedy, documentary, and musical theatre to explore these themes. Humor⁢ serves ‌as⁢ a tool ⁢to ⁤create a safe space for dialogue, making‍ difficult topics ‌more accessible. Our goal is for audiences to both laugh and reflect ‍on their ⁣own experiences.

**Editor:** In the show, you explore the concept of obstetric violence and gender roles. Why⁤ do ‌you believe these issues ‌are‌ essential to address in a theatrical context?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** Art has a unique power to shine a light on societal issues and⁣ stimulate conversations. By addressing obstetric violence and gender roles, we can raise ⁣awareness and challenge existing stereotypes. It’s crucial to ‍show that these experiences are not isolated; many ⁤people are affected by them, and together ⁤we can advocate for change.

**Editor:** Each performance hosts‌ a guest who adds their ‌perspective. Can you share how these guests ‌influence the show’s dynamic?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** ‌Absolutely! Each ‌guest brings ⁤their unique insights and experiences,‌ enriching the performance and adding depth to ⁢the themes we ‌explore. It keeps the show fresh and‌ engages ⁣the audience in new ways, encouraging them ⁣to think critically about what they’ve⁢ just ⁣seen and‍ heard.

**Editor:** It sounds like a powerful experience. Lastly,‌ what do‌ you hope audiences take away from “Agoramana”?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** I hope they leave feeling less ⁤alone in their struggles and perhaps with a new understanding of the pressures surrounding parenthood and societal expectations. We want to encourage conversation beyond the theatre, so people can support one another and challenge the norms that confine us.

**Editor:** Thank you, Aphrodite!⁤ We’re⁢ excited‍ for “Agoramana” to reach Patras and help⁢ spark these necessary ‍discussions.

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** Thank you! I can’t wait‌ for everyone to experience it!
