After the two very successful theater seasons in Athens and tours throughout Greece, this time the show “Agoramana” comes to Patras.
What will we see on stage? A new mother finds that raising children under conditions of social pressure and incessant “well-intentioned” instructions ends up being an arduous, intensive and lonely job. Is she the only one who feels this way? Is she a bad mother? Why does a woman to be “complete” have to have children? How true is the narrative of family happiness you serve to young people? And what’s up with the men anyway?
Through a very personal style, which combines stand-up comedy, documentary and musical theatre, “Agoramana” explores, chronicles and deconstructs the experiences of parenthood, gradually sheds light on gender roles and boldly unravels the thread of violence against of women*. With its subversive subject matter, the show challenges viewers of all genders and ages to reexamine the systematic impact of social stereotypes and power structures on all of our lives.
Each show hosts a different guest, who integrates into the stage action and contributes with a unique perspective on the themes of the show.
“This load of logistics that mom has on her head is huge! To take a break from what I live, I go to the greengrocer, my friend…”
“Anyway, I’m not having a child with a man again.”
*During the show there are clear references and descriptions around the issue of obstetric violence. If you are a victim of obstetric violence, do not hesitate to seek help and support from certified professionals and agencies.

How do guest appearances enhance the storytelling and audience engagement in ”Agoramana”?
**Interview with Aphrodite Mitsopoulou, Co-Director and Writer of “Agoramana”**
**Editor**: Thank you for joining us, Aphrodite. “Agoramana” has experienced great success in Athens and across Greece. What can audiences expect from the show when it comes to Patras?
**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou**: Thank you for having me! In Patras, audiences can expect an intimate exploration of motherhood and the societal pressures surrounding it. Our protagonist grapples with feelings of isolation and doubt, questioning whether she’s a worthy mother and why societal norms dictate that a woman must have children to be considered “complete.” We blend stand-up comedy, documentary, and musical elements to address these themes in a relatable yet provocative way.
**Editor**: The show covers sensitive topics, such as gender roles and obstetric violence. Why did you feel it was important to include these elements?
**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou**: The experiences of motherhood are complex and often daunting. By tackling subjects like obstetric violence and systematic gender stereotypes, we aim to shed light on the real struggles women face. Our hope is to create a dialogue that allows both men and women to reflect on these issues and acknowledge their impact on personal lives and society as a whole.
**Editor**: The show’s personal style is a unique blend. How does integrating guest appearances contribute to the performance?
**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou**: Each guest brings a fresh perspective, enriching the narrative and connecting with the audience on different levels. Their contributions help to highlight the variety of experiences related to motherhood and gender, making the performance an evolving conversation rather than a one-sided narrative.
**Editor**: It sounds like “Agoramana” is not just a show but a call to action. What do you hope the audience takes away from the performance?
**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou**: Ultimately, we want the audience to feel seen and understood, to recognize that they are not alone in their struggles. We hope they leave with a greater awareness of the challenges faced by parents, particularly mothers, and the courage to question societal norms. It’s about encouraging everyone to challenge stereotypes and advocate for a more supportive environment for all families.
**Editor**: Thank you, Aphrodite. We’re eager to see how “Agoramana” will resonate with the Patras audience.
**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou**: Thank you! We’re excited to share our work and engage with the community in Patras.
