“Agoramana” stops at the act theater on November 15, 16 and 17

After the two very successful theater seasons in Athens and tours throughout Greece, this time the show “Agoramana” comes to Patras.

What will we see on stage? A new mother finds that raising children under conditions of social pressure and incessant “well-intentioned” instructions ends up being an arduous, intensive and lonely job. Is she the only one who feels this way? Is she a bad mother? Why does a woman to be “complete” have to have children? How true is the narrative of family happiness you serve to young people? And what’s up with the men anyway?

Through a very personal style, which combines stand-up comedy, documentary and musical theatre, “Agoramana” explores, chronicles and deconstructs the experiences of parenthood, gradually sheds light on gender roles and boldly unravels the thread of violence against of women*. With its subversive subject matter, the show challenges viewers of all genders and ages to reexamine the systematic impact of social stereotypes and power structures on all of our lives.

Each show hosts a different guest, who integrates into the stage action and contributes with a unique perspective on the themes of the show.

“This load of logistics that mom has on her head is huge! To take a break from what I live, I go to the greengrocer, my friend…”

“Anyway, I’m not having a child with a man again.”

*During the show there are clear references and descriptions around the issue of obstetric violence. If you are a victim of obstetric violence, do not hesitate to seek help and support from certified professionals and agencies.

– How does⁤ incorporating guest perspectives in ‌each performance enhance the experience for the audience?

**Interview with Aphrodite⁣ Mitsopoulou, Creator‍ and Co-Director of “Agoramana”**

**Editor:** Welcome, Aphrodite! It’s great to have you here. Your show “Agoramana” has had remarkable success‍ in Athens and across⁤ Greece. Now, it’s set to make‍ its debut in Patras. What can audiences expect from this performance?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** Thank you for having me! In “Agoramana,” we dive deep into the experience of⁢ motherhood, exploring the heavy social pressures and conflicting expectations placed on women. It’s a blend of stand-up comedy, documentary, and⁢ musical‍ theatre that‌ tackles ⁤serious themes like‌ the narrative of⁤ family happiness, societal stereotypes, and even obstetric violence. We aim to shed light on the realities many women face and challenge the‌ notion of what it means to be a “complete” individual.

**Editor:** That ⁢sounds powerful and thought-provoking. You ⁢mentioned that the show incorporates personal narratives and humor. How do you balance the comedic elements with the serious themes?

**Aphrodite⁢ Mitsopoulou:** It’s‌ essential ⁢to find that balance. Humor can be a bridge⁢ that ⁢allows us ⁣to discuss difficult topics⁤ without making ⁢the audience feel overwhelmed. Laughter creates a sense⁣ of connection and understanding, allowing ⁣us to approach serious issues like gender‍ roles and ⁢societal expectations in a way that’s digestible and ⁣engaging. We want the audience to reflect and, at the same time, feel entertained.

**Editor:** The themes you’re exploring are certainly timely. How do you think “Agoramana” resonates with audiences of different ages and genders?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** “Agoramana” speaks to everyone, regardless of gender or age. Parenthood and societal expectations affect us all in various ways. By addressing these topics, we encourage dialogue among audiences that might not typically engage in discussions around gender roles or family dynamics. It’s about fostering understanding and empathy among people, which is crucial in today’s society.

**Editor:** You also feature a different guest in each ⁣performance to contribute their perspective. How does this element enrich the show?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** Absolutely! Each ⁤guest‍ brings a unique viewpoint that enhances our exploration⁢ of the themes. It adds variety and allows for real-time interactions with the audience. This element helps keep⁣ the conversation fresh ⁣and dynamic, allowing ‌us to engage with the audience on multiple levels.

**Editor:** Lastly, is⁢ there anything specific ‍you would like to say to potential⁤ viewers about the show, especially considering the sensitive topics addressed?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** I encourage ⁤everyone to come with an open mind. We approach these themes with ⁤care, and our intention is to spark conversations about the lived experiences of motherhood and womanhood. If the topics resonate personally, I want our audience to feel supported to seek help or talk about their experiences. ⁣It’s about community and connection, which is what theater is all about.

**Editor:** Thank you so much for sharing‌ your insights,⁢ Aphrodite! We look forward to ‍the show in Patras and wish you continued success with “Agoramana.”

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** Thank you! I hope to see many of ‍you there!
