A doctor reveals the type of exercise to add to your plan to help you stay fit and keep your body healthy.
Daniel Lieberman, a Harvard University professor who specializes in human evolutionary biology, recently appeared on Steven Bartlett’s podcast “Diary of a CEO” to talk health.
During the show, he explained that exercising with weights is key to staying in shape – especially as you age.
Although the medical professional prefers walking or running for his training, he recognizes that any exercise with weights is much better for improving your training program.
He recommends doing at least “two good workouts with weights a week.”
“The loss of muscle mass can be very demoralizing, especially with age,” he explained in the podcast. Over time, people tend to lose muscle, which makes them weak and reduces their functional capacity. This triggers a vicious circle.
Once it does, some people may be less inclined to stay active, and then the muscles deteriorate further, which is very debilitating, according to Lieberman.
“The most popular myth remains that as you age it is normal to be less active, which is simply not true,” added the doctor.
