At least 55 people were killed in an Israeli attack on the town of Beit Lahiya in the northern Gaza Strip on Tuesday, according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA and Hamas. Many of the fatalities were women and children, WAFA reported, citing medical professionals. The civil emergency service in the Gaza Strip also reported 55 Palestinians killed in Beit Lahiya. A residential building was hit.
Dozens of people were injured, it said. Many victims are still believed to be under the rubble of the building. The Israeli military did not immediately comment.
