the essential
A construction site begins for three months: repair of the paintings, the waterproofing and the illuminated sign.
Scaffolding was installed Tuesday during the day in front of the Florida, a musical complex located on Boulevard Carnot in Agen. A vast renovation project of its facade begins for a period of three months: coatings, paints, waterproofing of the zinc work, will be carried out until the end of November. Work assumed financially by the municipality owner of the walls, and piloted by the building department of the town hall.
A necessary refresh of the aging facade laid the foundations for a reflection entrusted to the firm Archiconseil. Opened in 1934 with pomp and glitter, the Florida, which was a cabaret at the time when Joséphine Baker, the muse of the place, and all the great stars of French song performed, became a cinema at the end of the 1970s before closed its doors in 1988 and was completely transformed in 1992 into an amplified music complex, under the impetus of Marie-Thérèse Francois-Poncet, culture assistant and president of ADEM Florida.
Since then, the place has only benefited from a cosmetic operation of its exterior walls regarding fifteen years ago.
As part of this upcoming project, a colorimetric study was carried out to support the project owner in the evolution of the image of this major cultural complex, scene of contemporary music. The mouse grays and carmine red from the RAL color chart have been validated by the architect of the Buildings of France.
The sign changes
The color red evokes the curtains of the music hall, the red carpets, but also an idea of dynamism and festivities. This color will materialize the main entrance on boulevard Carnot and the “show” entrance on rue de l’Ecole-Vieille.
The off-white which will be the dominant tone of the facade recalls the architectural side with art deco style lines. Gray will highlight the foundations of the building. The objective is to respect the original architectural choices and the moldings of this mythical place. In the upper part, the curve that evokes a microphone fin from the 1930s and 1940s will house the “Florida” illuminated sign in capital letters, signed Agen Néon, in the center. It will be dislodged from the pediment for more visibility. The gray microphone will also be set in flat tints of red.
