Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) relies on more police presence once morest violence in German outdoor pools. “For me it is important that the rule of law takes action, that there are enough staff on site so that something like this doesn’t happen,” said Faeser to “Bild” with a view to one Mass brawl in a Berlin outdoor pool at the end of June. “In Germany, families with children or young people must be able to go to the swimming pool without any worries.”
She also wanted to address in the conference of interior ministers “that we obviously have to increase the police presence there,” said the minister. Because in a constitutional state “we must not allow something like that”. If such incidents had a migrant background, as evident in Berlinit is important to name that “so that people can see that we are taking this seriously and are not ducking away”.
At the end of June, there was a major argument involving up to 250 people in an outdoor pool in the Neukölln district of Berlin. The trigger is said to have been a dispute regarding spraying water pistols, a man broke the nose of a 21-year-old. A similar incident in a summer swimming pool in the Steglitz district of Berlin had previously led to a fight involving around a hundred people. (pak/AFP)
