The Joint Chiefs of Staff said today that from 6:01 to 6:23 a.m., North Korea detected two short-range ballistic missiles fired from the Samseok area in Pyongyang into the East Sea.
The first missile had a flight distance of 350 kilometers and an altitude of 80 kilometers, and the second missile was detected to have flown regarding 800 kilometers at an altitude of 60 kilometers.
Japan’s Defense Ministry said the ballistic missile appears to have landed outside its exclusive boundary zone.
North Korea fired a medium-range ballistic missile, presumed to be a ‘Hwasong-12’, from the Mupyong-ri area of Jagang Province on the 4th, and fired another short-range ballistic missile two days later.
It is presumed that the missile is tested in various environments by changing the launch location, and this launch is interpreted as a reaction once morest the re-entry of a carrier strike group including the US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier ‘Ronald Reagan’ into the East Sea.
It is analyzed that it is not unrelated to the fact that North Korea, which did not give an official response when the nuclear carrier entered the port of Busan on the 23rd of last month, released an official notice at the Foreign Ministry level this time.
Earlier this morning, North Korea’s foreign ministry said, “We are watching the US re-introduce aircraft carriers to create a threat to the stability of the situation.”
The ‘Ronald Reagan’ and the carrier strike group are expected to participate in a joint South Korea-U.S.-Japan joint exercise in response to North Korean missiles in the high seas of the East Sea today.
The military authorities said they are maintaining a readiness posture while closely cooperating with the United States while strengthening surveillance and vigilance once morest North Korea in preparation for additional launches.
