Against a Vision Pro, Apple requests agreement for facial recognition

To order the Apple Vision Pro from the Apple Store app on iOS, you will have to agree in exchange to use a face recognition tool. This should ultimately make it possible to provide exactly the right frame for each body shape, moreover the AirPods also suggest doing the same with your pavilion. Efforts which are reminiscent of the first presentations of the mixed reality headset, emphasizing the comfort that it offers to users. The battery, in particular, is offset. Thus, the weight of the device installed on the head is less, which makes it bearable for longer – in theory.

It is also rumored that to obtain the Vision Pro, home delivery will not be offered by the manufacturer. You would therefore have to go directly to the Apple Store to collect the device, which will not always be easy for those who live too far from the address in question. We know, for example, that to this day there is still no Apple Store in Toulouse. But Apple’s mixed reality headset is not yet available in mainland France. We do not know what its release date is for the European market. The price in the United States is however known: it is set at 3 499 dollarswithout the costs of potential additional accessories such as a controller, a storage case or an additional battery.

End-to-end encryption of the game?

For the most skeptical, however, let us point out that Apple regularly offers end-to-end encryption, particularly with most of its most sensitive services such as Messages or the Mail inbox. We can therefore easily assume that encryption will also be included for the Apple Store app with this future functionality, but it is impossible to be certain at the moment.

For face recognition, Apple will most likely require Face ID. The technology, which relies on the capabilities of the TrueDepth sensor installed under the notch or under the Dynamic Island of high-end iPhones, has existed since 2017. We find it notably embedded on the iPhone 15, the iPhone 15 Plus, the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max released last September. But mobiles are not the only ones to be entitled to it and this is also the case for the most recent iPad Pro models. Patents suggest that the developer is also considering porting this system to its MacBook Pros, but we still have not seen the color in stores. On the other hand, Windows computers equipped with facial recognition already number in the millions.

Release date and availability

The Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset will be available for pre-order from January 19 next, across the Atlantic only, therefore, at the beginning. The first users, however, will be able to get their hands on the device as soon as FEBRUARY, but not before. The reception time is therefore quite long, compared to that of certain iPhones when they are released.

Analysts believe that the Apple Vision Pro will also be made available for the European market later this year. A more precise schedule might be revealed during the Worldwide Developer Conference, organized by Apple in June in Cupertino.

  • Apple will ask to scan the faces of users who want a Vision Pro
  • The mixed reality headset comes out next month in the United States
  • End-to-end encryption should be there, with Face ID
