Within a few days, sheep were killed once more in Langschlag (Zwettl district). This time four animals were killed on Friday night. The analysis of the DNA traces should now clarify whether a wolf is behind the two cases.

Five sheep were attacked on a pasture in the small village of Bruderndorf in the municipality of Langschlag. Four died, one injured survived. It is now in the stable with the other female sheep.
Due to the injuries, his owner Dörte Elmer assumes that a wolf tore the sheep: “The large lead sheep was completely dismembered. The other had a broken foot. The third had bite marks on his neck. All four had bite wounds. And the fourth, who died two days later, had a bite on his thigh.”
Just a few days before that, two sheep were torn and fatally injured in the Langschlager cadastral community of Siebenhöfe – only four to five kilometers from Bruderndorf – more on that in Wolf suspected behind torn sheep (noe.ORF.at; 14.8.2022). Whether a wolf actually killed the animals is to be found out with the help of DNA samples from the dead sheep. In the current case, these have not yet reached the experts. In the case of the torn sheep in Siebenhöfe almost a week and a half ago, an official finding should be available on Tuesday.
Pasture deserted following sheep kill
The affected sheep owner from Bruderndorf now wants to play it safe: “As a precautionary measure, we have the remaining female sheep at home at the moment. We assume that we will be spared in the next few years. I hope he never comes back.” The pasture, where 15 sheep were standing just a few days ago, is currently deserted.
