On the occasion of the commemoration of the International Day of Water and Forests, which falls on the twenty-second of March of each year, and under the slogan “Forest and Health”, the Agadir community organized on the morning of March 22, in partnership with the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of National Education, an environmental and educational activity that aims to implement the principles of environmental education and sustainable development on level of educational institutions.

The scene of this environmental activity was the old waste dump “Bikran”, which underwent a major rehabilitation process, which turned it from a hotbed of garbage into a green site extending over 28 hectares, furnished with hundreds of argan trees and some types of trees and plants.

The activities of this environmental meeting, which was attended by a group of students of educational institutions who are active in environmental clubs, began with a tour to explore the qualified area to find out what it is rich in emerging forest wealth and natural qualifications that will make it in the future one of the parks that will be visited by many visitors.

And always associated with Al-Muttrah, it was envisioned to establish an orbit for practicing sports, especially the school cross-country races, and to take advantage of its location not far from the city and in a semi-rural area to include green spaces that will be opened to the public.

Presentations were made by officials related to various environmental projects, such as the process of rehabilitating the garbage dump and converting it to its current form following burying the waste at a depth of more than 12 meters, and establishing a plateau with parallel slopes on all sides and strengthening the soil layers so that they are not exposed to rainwater leakage, and the construction of 44 Wells to drain the methane gas present in the excretory cavity as a result of the fermentation of waste, in addition to planting argan bushes and providing them with the local irrigation technique.

The program for the use of wastewater following treatment was also dealt with, and the supply of all green areas in Agadir Al-Kabir with irrigation water derived from wastewater, in light of drought and scarcity of natural water.

In another presentation, the development of green areas in the dirt field of the commune of Agadir and the efforts made to raise indicators of the city’s population benefiting from green areas were discussed.

The works of this environmental morning culminated in a campaign of planting argan tree seedlings in the qualified area, under the supervision of horticultural workers of the Agadir commune, in which students of educational institutions participated in particular.

In parallel with the paragraphs prescribed in the qualified excrement, other activities related to a training course in plant propagation and veterinary technology in the collective nursery of Agadir, and an afforestation campaign with the participation of students, were programmed at Al-Wahda School in Benserkaou, the Preparatory Secondary School of Ramallah Banza High School, and the Sakina Bint Al-Hussein School in Agadir.
