Dr. Sherine Ali Zaki, Undersecretary of the General Syndicate of Veterinarians and Chair of the Syndicate’s Food Safety Committee, said in exclusive statements to “Al-Arabiya.net” and “Al-Hadath.net” that the health hazard of Hawawshi made from egg cartons lies in the fact that it is full and contaminated with broken eggs, insect eggs, salmonella and urine. And rat excrement because they are in stores, adding that this cheating harms public health and causes great damage to the vital organs of the body, although cheaters hide this by adding spices and mixtures made to hide cheating.
She explained that some cheaters add some poultry offal, fat and skins to meat to increase its quantity and sell it. It is manufactured in homes and unknown places, indicating the necessity of processing and mincing meat in homes or in front of the eyes of buyers at butcher shops.

She pointed out that egg cartons that are added to meat are soaked in unusable colored water that destroys the liver, kidneys and immune system and causes food poisoning and virus infiltration of the body, adding that rotten meat made from the internal organs causes the transmission of diseases, viruses and animal microbes to humans such as tuberculosis and others.
The Egyptian official called for the intensification of control and campaigns on all restaurants, hotel establishments and cafeterias, and toughening penalties for violators in order to protect the public health of citizens.
The pioneers of social networking sites in Egypt had circulated a video clip that revealed a major health disaster.
The video, which was broadcast by “YouTuber” through its account on the communication sites, showed a method used by some restaurants, to make Hawawshi from paper egg cartons, and to provide it with a special mixture to give it the real taste of Hawawshi, which portends a health disaster.
The cheaters – according to the description of the owner of the video – chop the paper egg cartons following soaking them in a red color, add spices to them, settle them and sell them to the public who accepts them because their taste is close to the taste of the hawawshi, and at cheap prices that are absolutely not commensurate with the high price of meat in Egypt.
The owner of the video indicated that a number of the most luxurious Hawawshi shops in Egypt produce 500 to 1,000 Hawawshi loaves of this fraudulent mixture and sell them to their customers, calling on the Ministries of Health and Interior to move quickly to uncover the circumstances of the incident.
