The question remained unanswered: were the children going to return to school this Monday, January 8 at Teich college? In fact, toxic mushrooms had once once more been spotted within the establishment. In fall 2021, their appearance on the walls had forced the Departmental Council to close the establishment for several weeks to carry out sanitation work.

And everything went well until the start of the 2023 school year. In October, fifth grade students had to leave the Spanish room. Others complained of headaches, respiratory or eye discomfort. Rooms had even been treated during the All Saints’ Day holidays. A meeting was held at the prefecture on December 14 on this subject with representatives of the Regional Health Agency (ARS), the Academy and the departmental National Education service.

“Resanitized establishment”

Among parents, a question arose: were the students going to return to their college? And it will. Karine Desmoulins, socialist mayor of Teich and departmental councilor, is relieved: “I am delighted to know that staff, teachers and students can start the year in better conditions. The college will welcome students tomorrow. It is a sanitized establishment. »

In fact, the project was carried out during the holidays: “All the planned work was carried out by the Department. The Business and Biodiversanté teams were on site for two weeks, carrying out samples and various work. Global disinfection was carried out as agreed. The science room has benefited from painting work which has not been completed. All other classes are operational. »

As for the samples, the results have not yet come back but should be known next week. However, concludes the mayor, “the bulk of the work remains to come this summer, with the installation of drains in the courtyard”. An operation intended to counteract the humidity of the site and thus prevent a further return of fungi.
