Catalan police said Mounir Nasraoui, the father of 17-year-old Barcelona star Lamine Jamal, was admitted to hospital in a serious condition on Wednesday after being stabbed twice.
The attack took place in a parking lot in the city of Mataró, near Barcelona, where Yamal’s father lives, after a fight between Nasraoui and other men who also live in that neighborhood, according to police.
The local police from Mataro broke up the aforementioned fight, and a video clip from that incident showed Yamal’s father wearing a shirt with his son Lamine’s name on it.
Police told CNN that the suspects had no prior criminal records. Three were arrested late Wednesday, just hours after the attack, and a fourth was arrested Thursday.
The police press office said all suspects face possible assault charges and are expected to be arraigned no later than Monday.
Nasraoui said on Instagram on Thursday that he was “feeling better” and thanked everyone for the messages of support he had received.
It is noteworthy that Lamine Jamal, who won the 2024 European Nations Cup with the Spanish national team, underwent a training session with Barcelona on Thursday, in preparation for the Catalan team’s opening match in the new season of the Spanish League, against Valencia next Saturday.
