On Wednesday, August 21, the “Birds” directed by Ari Biniari will be in Aegio, specifically in the “Giorgou Pappa” outdoor theater, after the triumph they experienced in Epidaurus, where 18,400 spectators occupied the Ancient Theater on August 9 and 10, marking an incredible sell-out out and deifying the “painting” of the director in ancient comedy.
The public embraced Aristophanes’ universal poem with its true and essential theme: the search for a new beginning, outside of human society, away from saturation, decay and corruption.
With his artistic companions Elena Triantafyllopoulou (drama editing-arrangement), Pari Mexis (sets-costumes), Alexandros Drako Ktistakis (musical composition), Alexandros Vardaxoglou (kinesiology), Vangelis Moutrichas (lighting design) etc., Aris Biniaris delivered a modern adaptation of the timeless Aristophanic comedy centering on the human condition, transformation and the restoration of a worldly justice.
The 18,400 spectators warmly applauded all the performers and the troupe: Odysseas Papaspiliopoulos, Giorgos Chrysostomou, Stelios Iakovides, Thanasis Isidorou, Tasos Korkos, Costas Koronaios, Sofia Koumoulos, Maria Kyrozis, Erriko Miliaris, Marios Panagiotou, Ko in Phoenix , Kyriakos Sali, Alexia Sapranidou, Konstantina Takalou, Irini Tcellou.
The show continues its run in selected theaters throughout Greece.
In Attica, it makes its first stop on Friday, August 30, at the Technological and Cultural Park of Lavrio.
The case
Two friends, Pisthetairos and Evelpides, disappointed by the living conditions in their city, are looking for a new place where they can live in peace and joy. Their contact with the world of birds will give them the idea of establishing a new state in the ethers, between earth and sky.
While the construction of the city is in progress, uninvited visitors from the human world arrive, claiming arbitrary powers and privileges, while emissaries of the gods of Olympus protest in dismay at the questioning of divine sovereignty as the new city prevents the fumes from the sacrifices from reach the sky
Will Peisthetairos and Evelpides, with the help of the birds, manage to complete the building of Nefelokokygia? How easy will it be to realize their own utopia?
The show
The direction of Aris Biniaris utilizes the element of ritual with the aim of highlighting the allegorical extensions of the Aristophanic work, while the music and movement place the human condition, transformation and the restoration of a worldly justice at the center of the performance.
With human civilization having reached a liminal moment, the flight of birds resembles a rite of initiation and reconnection of man with the natural world and with the unprecedented power that arises from this relationship.
