Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Egyptian artist, Mohamed Sobhi, responded to the controversy of a video clip that was circulated to him and some considered it “offensive to Egypt and its leadership,” Thursday, following it included a request to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to allow those who “are better than him.” As he put it, he is running for election.
Mohamed Sobhi said: “This is a response to the haters of Egypt, the homeland, and a message to everyone who offended me and took away part of my words in a live broadcast: I am not afraid of anything, but it was reverse talk just to distort the image of Egypt and its leadership by accusing me of insulting either Egypt or the leadership of Egypt.”
Sobhi added, “The words in the video that will now be shown are the words that were said, which is what the genius professors took in order to extract from it what offends Egypt.”
And the Egyptian representative continued, saying: “No… we are sticking to our president and the government, and we are calling for amendments and reform in many matters, but we are sticking to our will, not to the will of those who pollute Egypt’s reputation abroad.”
Sobhi appeared in the clip he showed, saying: “We appreciate the Egyptian leadership… Egypt was saved at a defining moment, and those who saved it were the armed forces and the police. It saved Egypt from being lost and from being like Libya, Yemen and Syria… We recognize this, but we allowed enough time for the gathering.” matters, but it will not last and will not become a political line forever.”
And the Egyptian representative added, “If there was a national conference, we would like to talk regarding many matters. We love the president and we love the government. If it were any other government, we would also resent it.”
Sobhi continued, “We love the government, the leadership, and all those who are loyal to this country, and whoever wants to express his love in this way, we disagree with the priorities and the executive steps, and yet we stick to the president.”
And the Egyptian representative added, “I want to tell the president: Make sure that people love you, and if you are sure of that, please allow those who are better than you to run for elections.”
This part of Sobhi’s speech was spread widely on social media, and some called for “not arresting” him in Egypt following the clip, which Sobhi said was incomplete.
