After the record heat, the number 1722 activated due to the risk of storm or flood

After the record heat of Monday and Tuesday, the IRM predicts heavy showers, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms. The temperatures will be milder, with maximums between 24°C at sea and 29°C, far from the 38.1°C measured in Uccle on Tuesday.

The purpose of the 1722 is to prevent emergency numbers from being overwhelmed with calls for interventions which can however wait. In the event of storm damage or water damage for which the assistance of the fire brigade is required, this number should therefore be dialed. If a life is in danger, call 112.

The SPF also recommends using the 1722.be electronic counter, considered “the most direct way to request help from the firefighters in situations where no life is in danger”.

The 112 emergency centers and the fire brigade always give priority to people whose life is potentially in danger. “They analyze the situation on a case-by-case basis and determine who should be rescued first. During a storm or a flood, they have to deal with many requests at the same time”, underlines the federal public service. “Be patient and don’t call back to find out when help will arrive,” he asks.

The activation of the number 1722 is preventive when a storm or heavy rain is announced. This activation in no way predicts the seriousness of the warning and the extent of the possible damage, recalls the SPF Interior.
