After the Polisario congress, the security chaos resumed with renewed vigor

After the end of the XVIth Polisario congress, insecurity in the Tindouf camps resumed with renewed vigour. Individuals this week attacked a police station and ransacked its offices.

For his part, the opponent Mahmoud Zeidan, who lives in Spain, announced that an unidentified group set fire to tanker trucks. Zeidan called for “declaring the Tindouf camps a disaster area, because of the multiplication of these serious security incidents”.

These criminal acts are committed in full view of the Polisario armed militias. “The tribal factor plays a determining role in whether or not the police are mobilized. When these attacks are the work of powerful people with connections within the leadership, the security services generally turn a blind eye,” said a Sahrawi source in Laayoune in statements to Yabiladi.

As a reminder, the Tindouf camps had experienced similar incidents in February and July 2022.
