After the news about A. Navalny’s death, Russian expatriates held a rally in Warsaw

The Russian prison service has announced that A. Navalny, a key figure in the Russian opposition, has died in a high-security colony in northern Siberia, where he was transferred to continue his 19-year prison sentence.

He became famous for publicizing official corruption in Russia and was a prominent critic of President Vladimir Putin.

The demonstration in front of the Russian embassy in the Polish capital was mainly attended by young people, many of whom were clearly shocked.

Denislan, a 29-year-old Russian who declined to be identified, said he had come to protest political killings and that Navalny was a symbol of Russian civil society for him.

“I am here because Russia should and can be a democratic country,” he said, his voice trembling with excitement.

Candles were lit and flowers were placed near the fence of the closely guarded embassy complex.

“The authorities are also responsible for Navalny’s death,” said Natalia Kondel, a Russian who fled her homeland following protesting the invasion of Ukraine.

The participants of the rally chanted “Putin is a murderer” and promised to never forget the dissident’s death and never forgive it.

Several hundred people also protested outside the Russian embassy in the German capital, Berlin.

“Putin the killer!” Putin – to The Hague”, shouted the crowd. The International Criminal Court (ICC) is located in The Hague.
