After the Moscow attacks, Biden promises Zelensky with advanced air defense systems

After being bombarded by devastating missile attacks from Russia, US President Joe Biden pledged to his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, that the United States would provide Ukraine with advanced air systems.

Biden spoke by phone to Zelensky To provide assurances of continued US support and to condemn “foolish attacks” from Russia that hit civilian targets.

A White House statement commenting on the phone call said that “President Biden pledged to continue to provide Ukraine with the support necessary to defend itself, including advanced air defense systems.”

To impose sanctions

The White House added that Biden told Zelensky that the United States and its allies and partners would continue to impose sanctions on Russia, “hold it accountable for its war crimes and atrocities, and provide Ukraine with security, economic, and humanitarian assistance.”

The new promises came following Russia launched more than 80 long-range missiles at infrastructure in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities on Monday.

While Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened a stronger and more severe response if Kyiv tried once more to strike Russian territory, as he put it.
The Russian strikes came today in response to the attack last Saturday on the Crimean bridge linking the Russian mainland to the peninsula that Russia annexed in 2014.

It is noteworthy that the United States has provided security assistance estimated at more than 16.8 billion dollars since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, and imposed a wide range of economic sanctions on Moscow for its actions in Ukraine.
