The “Atlas Lions” qualified for the round of 16 in the World Cup in Qatar, following defeating Canada 2-1, Thursday, leading the group following the goalless draw that ended with the match between Croatia and Belgium.
Morocco raised its score to 7 points from two victories and a draw, and accompanied the Croatian team, the “Atlas Lions” to the final price round, in second place with 5 points.
Belgium (4 points) bid farewell to the World Cup in Russia in the first round, in one of the biggest surprises of the World Cup in Qatar.
Hakim Ziyech scored Morocco’s first goal in the 4th minute with a beautiful ball he played over the advancing Canadian goalkeeper.
Youssef Al-Nusairi added the second goal for the Atlas Lions in the 23rd minute, following a long ball, which he followed strongly to the left of the Canadian goalkeeper.
Nusairi became the first Moroccan player to score in two different World Cups.
The Canadians scored the first goal in the 40th minute with a friendly fire foot by Nayef Akrad.
This is the second time that Morocco has qualified for the second round of the World Cup following the World Cup 86.
