Eager to maintain its status as a space power despite international sanctions, Vladimir Putin’s Russia did not need that. On August 20, at midday, Roscosmos engineers had to admit that the lunar probe Luna-25 had missed its landing before “ceasing its existence following a collision with the lunar surface”.

This announcement abruptly put an end to the hopes of the Russians, who were following the journey of Luna-25, which began on the night of August 10 to 11. “This is the first Russian expedition to the Earth satellite for almost fifty years,” said the RBC economic agency in Moscow. Launched from the Vostotchny Cosmodrome in Amur Oblast, Luna-25 was successfully placed in lunar orbit last Wednesday. In the meantime, the station was able to send a “selfie” then the first images of the dark side of the Moon, in particular the Zeeman crater, which went around the Russian Web, causing the pride of Internet users.
