The Al Bait stadium, with a capacity for 60,000 spectators, will be the scene of the opening match between Qatar and Ecuador and will host nine matches. It is in Al Khor, a city located 35 kilometers north of Doha, and its name derives from the “bayt al sha’ar”, traditional tents used by nomads from the host country and the Gulf region.
Its design is inspired by the tents used by the nomadic peoples of the region. After the World Cup, the field will reduce its capacity because a large part of the seats will be donated to underdeveloped countries.
In addition to this match, Al Bait will host eight other games, including one in the round of 16, another in the quarterfinals and one in the semifinals.
