Before his arrest in March of this year, Jonathan Majors was positioned as the central figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the Disney-owned studio building its entire current narrative arc around Kang the Conqueror.

The time-traveling villain made appearances in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, as well as both seasons of Loki, and he would be the antagonist in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, scheduled for May 1, 2026. The film is still underway. in the script phase and had not yet started recording. No director is currently attached to the project.

Marvel has two options now. It might recast the role, although it’s unclear how many actors would be interested in a role from which an actor has been publicly fired. The other path is to reformulate your plans and refocus on a new villain. While Marvel’s sources are keeping quiet, there are indications that the studio is already doing just that.

In November, Marvel hired Loki creator Michael Waldron to work on a new draft of what was once called Kang Dynasty but is now known as Avengers 5, according to sources.

The studio had months to plan for such an eventuality, and it’s possible that Waldon was part of that course correction.

Marvel has recasts in the past, but because of creative and financial differences, not legal problems.

For now, we can only wait to find out what the future of the MCU will be following all this controversy.
