Angry reactions continue regarding the agreement signed by the health sector union coordination with the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khalid Ait Taleb, with the authorization of the Prime Minister.

While the six-party coordination, consisting of the National Health Union (CDT), the National Public Health Union (FDT), the Independent Union of Nurses, the National Health Union (UGTM), and the Democratic Health Organization (ODT), welcomed the agreement and decided to suspend the planned forms of protest, the National Health Union of the Moroccan Labor Union, the largest representative union in the sector, according to the results of the professional elections in 2021, had a different opinion.

After its decision to boycott dialogue with the government, the union decided to continue the protest and engage in the forms of struggle previously expressed, including the central protest stand tomorrow, Thursday, in front of Parliament, and the open strike until the end of this week.

In response to this topic, Mohamed El Wardi, National Secretary of the National Health Union (UMT), revealed that the conditions set by the same union in order to sit at the dialogue table with the government “are not available.”

Al-Wardi stressed that the union is adhering to the aforementioned conditions, which include sitting with the Prime Minister personally and not the Minister of Health, stopping the prosecutions against those arrested in the protest march in Rabat that was organized on July 10, and returning the deductions from wages.

The same activist concluded by stressing that the union will continue its protest steps, according to the struggle program that was previously outlined.

It is worth noting that the coordinating committees of the health sector had in turn announced their rebellion against the agreement signed between the six most representative unions and the government of Aziz Akhannouch, noting that “the government’s response did not respond to the guarantees and legal and legal points,” while calling on all workers in the sector to “continue implementing the second part of the open strike in the health sector.”

It is noteworthy that the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khalid Ait Taleb, signed, on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, with the authorization of the Head of Government, a memorandum of agreement between the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the unions represented in the health sector, namely the National Health Union under the banner of the Democratic Confederation of Labor, the National Public Health Union under the banner of the Democratic Federation of Labor, the Independent Union of Nurses, the National Health Union under the banner of the General Union of Moroccan Workers, the National Health Sector Union under the banner of the National Labor Union, and the Democratic Health Organization under the banner of the Democratic Labor Organization, based on the government’s presentation regarding the file of demands submitted by the Minister of Health and Social Protection to the unions with the authorization of the Head of Government on July 12, 2024.

A statement from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection stated that this agreement comes within the framework of implementing the royal instructions aimed at implementing the workshops for the generalization of social protection, and with the aim of a radical reform of the national health system, and in order to provide the necessary conditions for this reform, a comprehensive review of the governance of the health system with all its components was approved, particularly by restoring the reputation of health professionals working in the territorial health groups and appreciating them for their efforts in providing health services that meet the aspirations of citizens.
