After the conclusion of the commission, G. Landsbergis sees further joint work with D. Matulionius

“Yes,” G. Landsbergis told reporters on Wednesday, when asked if he sees further work together.

The conclusion of the commission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that D. Matulionis did not follow the instructions during the NATO summit in Vilnius this July, but no punishment is proposed for him.

G. Landsbergis said that he could not comment on the content of the conclusion, as he had not yet had the opportunity to get acquainted with it.

“I haven’t had time to get to know the material of the offer, usually it’s rare to deviate from the offer,” he said.

The investigation into D. Matulionis was started after doubts arose that the diplomat could not comply with the mandate given by the state institutions and by his activities weaken Lithuania’s negotiating positions in the negotiations regarding the documents of the NATO summit in Vilnius, the news portal “Delfi” announced in August.

According to him, the investigation is related to the actions of D. Matulionis during negotiations on the NATO communiqué and wording on the deployment of the German brigade in Lithuania.

President Gitanas Nausėda has said that he trusts the ambassador. He emphasized that the negotiations during the NATO summit in Vilnius were particularly difficult.

The ambassador himself did not comment on the situation to BNS.
