After the boxer’s threat, the Mexican captain defends Messi

Mexico’s captain Andres Guardado defended Lionel Messi following Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez made a veiled threat to the Argentine striker following he felt offended by a video of Messi pushing his foot aside the Mexico national team shirt in the dressing room following the World Cup win in Qatar over Mexico.

Messi scored in the 2-0 World Cup victory over Mexico last Saturday, and Alvarez wrote on Monday via his Twitter account, which is followed by 2.2 million people: Have you seen Messi cleaning the floor with our shirt and flag?

And Alvarez added in another tweet, accompanied by an angry face and a flame: He (Messi) should pray to God not to catch him.

But the 36-year-old Guardado, who is participating in his fifth World Cup, backed Messi.

He told reporters: There is a tacit agreement that if the players sweat falls on the floor of the dressing room, everyone should wipe it.

He continued: I had the good fortune to face Messi for many years in Spain, I know his personality and morals. Unfortunately, Canelo probably doesn’t understand what it’s like to be in the dressing room.

Mexico must win their final Group C match once morest Saudi Arabia on Wednesday to have any chance of reaching the last 16 in Qatar.
