After six years on the Ecopetrol board of directors, Carlos Gustavo Cano resigns

Cano was nominated for the board in March 2007, at the invitation of minority shareholders.

In the midst of the turbulent times that the hydrocarbons sector is experiencing, and especially Ecopetrol, the resignation of Carlos Gustavo Cano, who for six years has been part of that board of directors.

This Thursday, with a heartfelt message, the director until today indicated that he is retiring from “the largest and most important Colombian company… But when trust within any collegiate group like this vanishes, for reasons that I do not consider opportune nor prudent to mention now, what is ethically indicated is to step aside”.

Cano was nominated for the board in March 2007, at the invitation of minority shareholders, and it is worth remembering that it was precisely he who was appointed president of that governing body in October last year and a day later withdrew to take over the Saúl stores. Kattan, the anointed of President Gustavo Petro.

Cano’s departure occurs in a context in which the company is seeking a president, since Felipe Bayón resigned and will only be in charge until March 31.

According to what has transpired, Ricardo Roa has the blessing of the National Government, although Kattan himself disputes his position.

All these moves are worrying because the corporate governance of a company like Ecopetrol, responsible for a large part of the country’s income through taxes, royalties and dividends, cannot be put at risk.
