The third season of Atlanta finally starts on March 24th, which required the fans to wait four years, partly because of the corona pandemic. The interregnum until season four should be much shorter, because it is expected for the end of 2022. However, the cable broadcaster FX has now also announced that Donald Glover’s dramedy will then be over.
The fact that it’s happening so quickly this time is because Glover and his director Hiro Murai (Station Eleven) shot both seasons back-to-back. Most recently, the former community star, who is also known as the musician Childish Gambino, signed an all-round contract with Amazon Prime Video, where he can soon devote himself to new projects (we reported).
FX boss John Landgraf said of the upcoming Atlanta season: “The new season is everything you’d expect from ‘Atlanta’; that is, expect the unexpected. Lean back and enjoy the journey. In addition to Glover as the aimless wannabe music manager Earn, Brian Tyree Henry will of course also be cast as his cousin Alfred.Paper BoiMiles will return, as will Lakeith Stanfield and Zazie Beetz.
Glover co-writes Atlanta with his brother Stephen. Overall, the format has won two Golden Globes and five Primetime Emmy Awards since the series started in 2016. The new season takes the cast to Europe for a major overseas tour. In addition to the feeling of being a stranger, the central question is how the main characters deal with their new success. Because the tour is a real hit!
A first preview video was released around Halloween, which seemed quite scary…
