Warnings were issued for Kherson, Mykolaiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions, among others. Just a few days ago, Russia hit Ukraine with the worst wave of attacks since the war began almost two years ago. On Friday night, the Russians shelled the neighboring country with a total of almost 160 rockets, cruise missiles and drones of various types. According to Ukrainian sources, at least 39 people were killed.
The UN Security Council meeting following the Ukrainian attack on Belgorod was scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. New York time (10:00 p.m. CEST). The Russian UN mission announced this on Saturday. Three other security members confirmed the meeting.
Russia’s civil defense agency said on Telegram that 18 people were killed in Belgorod on Saturday night, including several children. Another 111 people were injured. The information might not initially be independently verified. Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov wrote on Telegram that mass New Year events would be canceled because of the attack. Video footage, the authenticity of which might not initially be verified, showed streets littered with rubble and clouds of smoke rising from burned-out cars in the center of Belgorod. A massive explosion might be heard in dashcam footage posted on online networks.
