Following the statements by Medhi Benatia (OM) and Brest coach Eric Roy on refereeing, Ligue 1 referees are also banging their fists on the table. “It didn’t take long for the alarm to be sounded, we are only in the first days…”, regrets the Union of Elite Football Referees (Safe) in a press release published this Monday. It points the finger in particular at Brest, Marseille and the Reims women’s team.
“Aggressive attitudes, inappropriate remarks or publications on social networks reflect a deplorable image of our football, without respect for the referees. Worse, their ethics, their integrity and their probity are questioned. What does all this ultimately achieve? Nothing of course, strictly nothing, if not resentment by fueling this anti-referee feeling,” deplores the Safe.
In this press release, the Safe announces that it is referring the matter to the FFF National Ethics Council. While awaiting sanctions, the union calls for “calm and restraint, and respect for those who remain the guarantors of the rules. There are protocols for exchanging information. Let’s respect them!”
The National Ethics Council will in fact refer the matter to the LFP’s disciplinary committee following criticism of the refereeing by Medhi Benatia, OM’s sports advisor, during the match against OL on Sunday (2-3), AFP learned on Monday from Patrick Anton, its president.
