After reducing his sentence in prison, the Russian filmmaker Kirill Serebrennikov leaves the country film director Kirill Serebrennikov affirmed this Friday, April 1, that he can leave his country once more and that he is currently in berlinfollowing receiving a sentence reduction.
Serebrennikov, known for his controversial creations and his support for the LGBTQ+ communitywas sentenced in June 2020 for diversion of funds to three years in jail.
That sentence, which the defenders of the director consider political, implied a ban on leaving the territory.

Serebrennikov, 52, has benefited from a reduced sentence following serving half of it.
“I have left Russia because I had the opportunity to do so legally,” he explained in a statement.
“In Europe I have some important appointments for my future projects,” he explained in the email.
He did not specify for the moment if his departure from Russia is definitive, nor did he comment on the current Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Serebrennikov has been invited to open the Avignon Festival (France) in July with a theatrical adaptation of “The Black Monk” by Anton Chekhov.
