After PTI, Jamaat-e-Islami protests in major cities today

The day after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest in Rawalpindi on Saturday, Jamaat-e-Islami has also announced sit-ins in major cities of the country.

According to the details released on Jamaat-e-Islami’s X account, the sit-ins will be organized on the highways of various major cities of the country, which according to them are being conducted by the federal government on ‘violation of the Rawalpindi Agreement’.

In July this year, Jamaat-e-Islami had launched a protest in Rawalpindi against the hike in electricity prices and tax on salaried employees, led by Jamaat’s central leader Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman.

The two-week-long protest ended after the federal government announced the formation of a task force in August to look into Jamaat-e-Islami’s demands. This agreement is known as the Rawalpindi Agreement.

According to the statement issued by Jamaat-e-Islami, protests will be held on the highways of Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore and Quetta, besides Mardan, Gujrat, Bannu Umarkot, Larkana, Nushki, Khasdar, Chaman and Gwadar etc.

According to the statement, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman will lead the sit-in in Karachi while other leaders of the Jamaat will lead the protest in other cities.

The funeral prayer of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli bombardment during Jamaat-e-Islami’s protest sit-ins, will also be offered in absentia.

Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has appealed to the people of Pakistan to perform the funeral prayers of Hasan Nasrallah in absentia.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf held an anti-government protest in Rawalpindi city on Saturday on the call of Imran Khan, in which a large number of party workers participated.

In view of the PTI protest, the Rawalpindi divisional administration imposed Section 144 in the entire division for two days, Saturday and Sunday, and all roads between Rawalpindi city and Islamabad were blocked with containers.

While the provincial government said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf was not allowed to protest.

After not getting permission from the district administration, the police blocked all the roads leading to Rawalpindi and tried to disperse the protesters by shelling them.
