8th day of the League, defeat 2-3
In Ligue 1, OM have almost everything good at the start of the season. Against Lens, it was a shock full of intensity that gave birth to Marseille’s first defeat of the season in the league (2-3). Despite a lot of character and clear chances, the Phocaeans are surprised and leave the place of dolphin to their executioners of the evening. It’s the end of OM all fired up at the start of the season and the start of a big fall slack.

21st day of the League, draw 1-1
The offensive storm that ravaged everything in its path became a harmless breeze. While OM had started their season with a bang offensively, Sampaoli changed course: the Phocaeans traded their unpredictability for an obsession with control. Marseille matches become more readable, Marseille attackers less effective too. Against Lille, despite a numerical superiority for more than an hour, a possession approaching 80%, the Marseillais struggled to equalize to snatch a point (1-1). Symbolic of the philosophical change of Sampaoli.

Late Matchday 14, 2-1 loss
OL’s head is underwater, OM must drown it definitively. When Matteo Guendouzi opens the scoring once morest a makeshift Lyon team, where many executives are missing, we think that the mass is said. But, inexplicably, the Marseillais stop playing and turn their cheeks when they have to drive the point home. Xherdan Shaqiri rebels unexpectedly, Moussa Dembélé scores an exceptional goal and OL overthrow a surprisingly double-faced OM.

Coupe de France quarter-final, 4-1 loss
A shock, another one, where OM go through. While the way to the Stade de France opened following the elimination of PSG, the Phocaeans are expected at the turn. They fall on a Nice team and a Justin Kluivert in a state of grace (4-1) and leave the Cup prematurely. Two small shots on target, a defense that takes on water: the return to earth is all the more violent as it comes following an exciting demonstration once morest Angers (5-2) where Sampaoli’s animation had hit the target.

25th day of Ligue 1, defeat 0-2
This time, not a shock but a simple formality at the end of the 25th day, we think. At the Vélodrome, facing a team in difficulty, OM must refuel to put Nice at four points. But the Marseillais are not there, smug and not very enterprising. Result: a 0-2 defeat in a rumbling Velodrome but getting used to poor performance. This season, with 29 points taken out of a possible 54, they left 25 units on the way at home…
