After Hamas’ victory in Gaza in the 2006 elections, Hamas expelled Fatah from the Gaza Strip, and since then the two groups have been at loggerheads.

Hamas has ruled Gaza since taking control in 2007.

Fatah governs the Palestinian Authority, which has partial administrative control in the occupied West Bank.
