“I joined the Social Democratic Party, nothing has changed for me, I am now withdrawing from active politics, moving to academic activities. But realizing my political experience without being part of any organization is simply impossible, so I did it, but I will not participate in active politics,” V. Jukna told BNS on Wednesday.
He confirmed that he also intends to join the faction of the Social Democratic Party in the Seimas, but noted that he will not run for the next term and will return to academic activities.
When asked why he changed parties, V. Jukna claimed that “there are certain moral values, moral boundaries that a person simply cannot cross”.
“I won’t comment on this any more, I really met a lot of great people in the Labor Party and I want to wish them the best possible success,” added the member of the Seimas.
The leader of the Labor Party, Seimas Vice-Chairman Andrius Mazuronis, following learning regarding the choice of his former colleague, accused V. Juknas of lying regarding the reasons for leaving.
A. Mazuronis claims that once V. Jukna confirmed to him that he will no longer participate in politics, but will remain in the faction, the second time he said that he had to leave the faction because of a better position in academic activities, but he will remain in the Mixed Group of Seimas members, and now he is joining the Social Democrats.
“After announcing that he was leaving politics, he still remained in the Seimas. He promised to work in the mixed group of the Seimas. And here, another month later, the third attack of amnesia. A person joins the Social Democratic faction in the Seimas and joins the party. After looking him in the eye three times and blatantly lying, a person finally discovered the social democratic principle in himself, with which I congratulate the social democratic party”, A. Mazuronis announced on Facebook on Wednesday.
Before turning to politics, V. Jukna was a former professor at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Vytautas the Great University (VDU). Before the last Seimas elections, he was the head of the Livestock Selection, Breeding Value Determination and Dissemination Center of the Academy of Agriculture of VMU.
He served as Minister of Agriculture in 2012-2014.
