The man was treated in intensive care. He died from his injuries on Tuesday, police spokesman Johann Baumschlager said on Wednesday evening in response to an APA request. The autopsy of the 84-year-old, ordered by the St. Pölten public prosecutor’s office, has now also been carried out. According to Baumschlager, gunshot wounds were found in the woman’s head area. Both bodies have now been released, the spokesman emphasized.
An acquaintance of the couple called the police on Monday morning. The officers found the 84-year-old lifeless. The 93-year-old partner was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and taken into police custody. The murder weapon is a seized pistol that the pensioner legally owned.
